A 125km historic corridor linking rail, industrial and agriculture sites.
The non-profit East Central Alberta Heritage Society was formed in 1997 to preserve the ex-Canadian Northern Railway corridor and as much railway track as possible between Edberg and Morin Alberta.
The Society owns approximately 141 km of railway corridor that includes 35 km of active railway line that is rented by a tourism operator. This railway track is the last remaining original piece of track laid in the early 1900’s by the Canadian Northern Railway, the predecessor of Canadian National Railway.
Five linear park areas have also been developed in different areas for a total of 17 km of maintained park land. The parks preserve historic railway infrastructure and provide public access to huge areas of plant and animal species. The rest of the property is open to the public as unmaintained park.
The ECAHS aims to preserve and protect our rich heritage while providing recreational opportunities to the public.
